What is special about Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel?

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel uses Manuka Honey as the key ingredient to help control bacteria and support the eye’s natural surface environment associated with dry eye symptoms.

Manuka Honey is renowned for its healing properties and has been used for centuries by the indigenous people of Australia and New Zealand as a natural remedy for treating infections and wounds. Manuka Honey is special because it is created by bees feeding on the nectar of flowers from the Leptospermum tree, otherwise known as the Tea Tree, which is native to Australia and New Zealand.

This deep golden and highly viscous honey has antiviral and antibacterial properties that help maintain a balanced eye environment. The Manuka Honey Gel acts as a natural antimicrobial agent in the tear film of the eye, helping manage bacteria and support a healthier tear film environment associated with dry eye symptoms.

How do I use Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel?

Dispense a small amount of Gel onto the tip of a cotton bud and gently apply along the inside of the lower eyelid. Repeat on the opposite end of the cotton tip for the other eye.

Apply the Gel up to 3 times per day, in the morning, around lunch time and before bed.

Many people report noticeable improvement in eye comfort after several weeks of consistent use.

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel is one part of the 3-step DRYEYEKIT for Severe Dry Eyes routine for more advanced dry eye symptoms.

Eye comfort may be further supported by also using Blephadex Wipes and Hylo Forte Drops.
Blephadex Wipes help clean and remove debris around the Meibomian glands, while Hylo Forte drops provide preservative-free lubrication throughout the day.

What is the difference between Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Drops and Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel?

There are two strengths of Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye products available.

The Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Drops have a lower concentration of Manuka Honey (165mg/g), while the Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel has a higher concentration (980mg/g).

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Drops are formulated for:

  • people experiencing mild to moderate dry eye symptoms

  • people who prefer a product that can be used quickly throughout the day

The drops are more fluid and easy to apply directly into the eye, making them convenient for use at work, while travelling, or on the go.

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel is formulated for:

  • people experiencing moderate to more advanced dry eye symptoms

  • people comfortable applying a thicker gel formulation to the eye

  • people who prefer preservative-free eye care products

The viscosity of the gel helps the Manuka Honey remain on the eyelid surface for longer periods, supporting eyelid hygiene and tear film stability.

Because the gel is thicker, it may take a few minutes longer to dissolve into the tear film after application.

Some people choose to use the drops during the day and apply the gel before bed as part of their daily eye care routine.

How does Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel support dry eye care?

One of the most common contributors to dry eye symptoms is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). MGD represents approximately 80% of dry eye cases and may present with symptoms such as red, burning, scratchy or irritated eyes.

The Meibomian glands are located in the upper and lower eyelids and release oils that help stabilise the tear film and reduce tear evaporation.

When these glands become blocked or the eyelid margin becomes irritated, the tear film may become unstable.

Manuka Honey’s natural antibacterial properties help support eyelid hygiene and a balanced ocular surface environment. Regular use may assist with maintaining tear film stability and overall eye comfort.

For many people, the best results are achieved when the gel is used as part of a daily eye care routine with the DRYEYEKIT for Severe Dry Eyes 3-step treatment

  1. Creating a clean eyelid margin with Blephadex lid wipes or foam

  2. Reduce bacteria and support a healthier tear film with Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel

  3. Maintaining lubrication with preservative-free sodium hyaluronate drops such as Hylo Forte
