The aim of our Optometrists in designing this kit was to minimise the use of preservatives found in most dry eye drops sold over the counter, which can sometimes exacerbate dry eye symptoms and make your eyes feel even more uncomfortable over time.

The DRYEYEKIT – Cleanse for Severe Dry Eyes with Foam comes in a handy waterproof zip bag that can be stored easily in the bathroom cupboard and is ready to pack and go when travelling.

This kit includes the Blephadex Pro Cleanse Eyelid Foam Cleanser, giving a gentle yet effective alternative for cleansing the eyelids.


What is included in the DRYEYEKIT - Cleanse for Severe Dry Eyes with Foam and how do I use it?

There are three steps in the DRYEYEKIT – Cleanse for Severe Dry Eyes with Foam – WIPE + DROP + DROP.

Each of these steps includes a product that addresses the debilitating feeling of dry eyes. By combining all 3 steps, we provide a comprehensive treatment that relieves symptoms and works on the underlying causes, enabling you to get on with your day-to-day life—often without even noticing how your eyes feel.

These 3 steps are independent of each other and do not have to be done in order.

WIPE:

Blephadex Pro Cleanse Eyelid Foam Cleanser: gently cleans the Meibomian Glands, removing crusty build-up and debris along the eyelid margins.

Use once a day, either in the morning or evening while showering or at the bathroom sink. Dispense a small amount of foam (approximately the size of a 20 cent coin) onto clean fingertips and gently massage along the eyelid margin where the eyelashes grow using side-to-side strokes. Close the eye and wipe away excess foam, then repeat on the other eyelid. If you are using the Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel at the same time, apply the Blephadex Pro Cleanse Foam first, then the Optimel Gel immediately afterwards.

DROP:

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel: controls the growth of bacteria on the surface of the eye and eyelids.

Dispense a small amount of gel onto the tip of a cotton bud and gently apply along the inside of the lower eyelid. Repeat on the other eye. Apply up to 3 times per day: morning, around lunchtime, and before bed. You should begin to feel relief from dry eye symptoms within 4–5 weeks.

DROP:

Hylo Forte Drops:  A preservative-free drop to lubricate eyes throughout the day.

Apply one drop to each eye whenever your eyes feel dry. You may also use them during the night if your eyes are uncomfortable. Because they are preservative-free, the Hylo Forte Drops can be used several times a day with no negative side effects.

Allow approximately 30 minutes after applying the Optimel Gel before adding the Hylo Forte Drops.


What is the difference between the DRYEYEKIT- Cleanse with Foam and the DRYEYEKIT - Cleanse for Severe Dry Eyes with Foam?

There are two strengths of Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye products available. The Optimel Drops have a lower concentration of Manuka Honey (165mg/g) and the Optimel Gel has a higher concentration (980mg/g).

The DRYEYEKIT- Cleanse with Foam is formulated for:

  • People suffering mild to medium dry eye symptoms

  • Those who require treatment on the go; the drops are fluid and easy to apply anywhere

The DRYEYEKIT – Cleanse for Severe Dry Eyes with Foam is formulated for:

  • People suffering medium to severe dry eye symptoms

  • People comfortable applying a more viscous gel along the inside of the lower eyelid

  • Those sensitive to preservatives; the gel is almost pure honey and preservative-free

The Optimel Gel can complement Optimel Drops—you may choose drops in the morning and lunch, and gel before bed—but people with severe dry eyes often benefit from applying the gel 3 times per day.


How does the DRYEYEKIT - Cleanse for Severe Dry Eyes with Foam help my Dry Eyes?

The most common cause of dry eyes is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). These tiny oil-producing glands along the upper and lower eyelids secrete oils into the tear film to prevent evaporation and maintain lubrication. When blocked or inflamed, tears evaporate quickly and eyes become red, burning, gritty, and uncomfortable.

The antibacterial Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel prevents bacteria from colonising the Meibomian glands and eye surface. It improves tear evaporation, reduces redness and inflammation, and stabilises the tear film. MGD is one cause of dry eye syndrome, but aging, hormonal changes, medical conditions, environment, long screen time, air conditioning, dust, contact lenses, injuries, and medications can also reduce tear production or change tear composition.

When eyes are not constantly moisturised with healthy tears, symptoms like itching or burning worsen, and prolonged dryness increases risk of inflammation, infection, and scarring.
