What is special about Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel?

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel contains Manuka Honey as its key ingredient to help manage bacteria and support the eye’s natural surface environment associated with dry eye.

Manuka Honey is well known for its natural properties and has a long history of traditional use in Australia and New Zealand. It is produced by bees that collect nectar from the Leptospermum (Tea Tree) plant, native to these regions.

This rich, golden and highly viscous honey has antibacterial properties that help maintain a balanced eye environment. The gel works within the tear film to help manage bacteria and support a stable ocular surface environment.

How do I use Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel?

Dispense a small amount of gel onto the tip of a cotton bud and gently apply along the inside of the lower eyelid. Repeat on the opposite end of the cotton tip for the other eye.

Apply up to 3 times per day, such as morning, midday and before bed.

Consistent use over time may help support ongoing eye comfort.

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel can be used as part of the 3-step DRYEYEKIT routine.

Eye care routines may also include complementary products such as Blephadex Wipes and Hylo Forte Drops.
Blephadex Wipes assist with eyelid hygiene, while Hylo Forte Drops provide preservative-free lubrication.

What is the difference between Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Drops and Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel?

There are two formulations available within the Optimel Manuka Honey range.

The Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Drops contain a lower concentration of Manuka Honey (165mg/g), while the Gel contains a higher concentration (980mg/g).

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Drops are suited to:

  • lighter, more fluid application

  • convenient use throughout the day

  • quick instillation directly into the eye

Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel is suited to:

  • a higher concentration Manuka Honey formulation

  • those who prefer a thicker gel consistency

  • preservative-free eye care routines

The gel’s viscosity allows it to remain on the eyelid surface for longer, supporting eyelid hygiene and tear film stability.

Due to its thicker consistency, it may take a few minutes to fully disperse after application.

Some routines include using drops during the day and gel in the evening.

How does Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel support dry eye care?

A common contributor to dry eye is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), which affects the oil glands located in the eyelids.

These glands produce oils that help stabilise the tear film and reduce tear evaporation. When gland function is disrupted, tear film stability may be affected.

Manuka Honey’s antibacterial properties help support eyelid hygiene and maintain a balanced ocular surface environment. Regular use may assist in maintaining tear film stability and overall eye comfort.

A structured eye care routine may include:

  • Cleansing the eyelid margins with Blephadex wipes or foam

  • Supporting tear film environment with Optimel Manuka Honey Dry Eye Gel

  • Maintaining lubrication with preservative-free sodium hyaluronate drops such as Hylo Forte
